Hands-on

Today morning, i was trying to get coupons punched at bandra station for a train ride to borivli. There were two machines, one with a smaller crowd around it than the other. Predictably, i headed for that one...only to be greeted by people turning away, saying that it isn't working. A few persistent people stayed on and kept trying though.

When my turn came, i managed to punch all 3 coupons on the first try, much to everyone's surprise.

People tried their luck after me, thinking that it the machine has started working...but to no avail.

I ended up teaching them how to punch coupons. There are a few tricks like flipping the coupon if one end doesn't work, straightening the coupon, giving it a very slight bend if it's too soft, removing the coupon from the slot at various speeds (yeah, it actually works!) etc.

Either my taught techniques were wrong or i was skipping some vital, subconciously-employed trick. The punch refused to do it's job.

Finally, they pleaded me to punch their coupons for them...and i did, pretty much flawlessly.

Freaky.

breathless

If life is measured not by the breaths that we take but the moments that take our breath away, then i've lived more in the last 2 days than the month before it.

writer's block

i haven't blogged my heart out in ages. i haven't even blogged at all in a while. wonder if it's because my life has turned ridiculously boring (not on a day-to-day basis, but somehow every week feels exactly like the one before it), or whether it's because i'm so happy the just way that i am right now that i don't care.

being irrationally happy also means that anything that should have spurred me into self-improvmental action has now been neatly swept under the carpet.

i know everything that's under the carpet is gonna catch up with me someday soon, but i'd rather pretend to be in blissful ignorance of that for now. happiness is a rare thing, and like every other rare thing, it's best savoured unblemished :)

extreme multitasking

today was one of the weirdest evenings out i've ever had yet. it satarted out fairly simple, with only one complication, and then turned into something else altogether.

disclaimer: too many people involved to assign alphabets, so i shall use real names for once :P, and just pretend that they're not real. maybe i swapped some names around or something. use your imagination.

the situation:

vane, yorick and i have been trying to meet up for a while but we've never quite managed to all be free at the same time and place for a sizable amount of time...till this weekend.

apoorv's birthday is coming up, and he's not going to be around on the actual day, so we need to celebrate it in advance. weekdays are extremely dicey since people all work random timings (the much-disguised curse of flexi-timings :P). hence, saturday night was chosen.

my bike has conked off in my office parking lot, and i need to get it working asap. the mechanic is only free on saturday evening or next week.

my amazing scheduling decision:

schedule everything at the (almost) same time and place. bike guy at 6:30pm in my office parking lot, apoorv's birthday celebration and catching up with vane and yorick at jughead's at 8pm in malad, about 10 minutes away.

the way it actualy turned out: the mechanic was early, apoorv preponed everything by an hour, yorick was late, and...5 of yorick's friends decided to turn up too!!!

there were some pretty funny moments, like when yorick had to reserve two different tables at the same place (they guy at the counter was like: "didn't you just book a table? what are you trying to do here?") and when i would hop from table to table, and when we sneaked all the people (one at a time, so the manager didn't notice) from one table to another to avoid the wait time for a new table (thankfully the waiting queue was out of sight from where we were sitting :D)

lesson learned:

please don't do this again...unless...hmmm...okay, no lesson learned. it was fun!!!

i stink...and i'm gonna die single!

there's a rather interesting application on facebook called "compare people". it shows you two randomly selected friends from your friend list and asks you to compare them on a certain characteristic (eg: who's more intelligent, who would i rather kiss etc). over time it builds some sort of ranking within your friend network.

those people have been getting quite creative of late, and in the process doing some rather fun (or embarrassing) things. like a few weeks ago, it sent a mail out to a (female) friend of mine saying that:

you won over ___ in response to the question "who would kris rather sleep with"

hmmm. thankfully, she took it rather sportingly (no, she didn't sleep with me :P)

today, they decided to do something even more random. they searched for people who share 2 of my top 3 or 4 ranked and bottom 3 or 4 ranked characteristics in order to find "my friends' friends who are most similar to me"

so apparently, i'm similar to 4 of my friends' friends on the basis of the following characteristics:

top ranked

  • likely to succeed
  • tech savvy
  • adventurous

bottom ranked

  • smells nicer
  • most desired for marriage

damn. i hope my friends are wrong.
